Every successful product team should be able to repeatedly add value to the business. The right product culture ensures this success.
- Product vision. It’s essential that the team has a clear vision of the big picture and how their immediate work contributes to the whole.
- Product strategy. The product strategy needs to spell out a logical and intentional sequence of target markets for the product teams to focus on.
- Business knowledge. To solve real problems the team should have a deep understanding of business needs, constraints, users, and customers.
- Discovery techniques. The mechanisms should be in place for ideas to be tested out quickly and safely. The engineers have to participate in product discovery from the start of ideation.
- Empowerment. Individuals and teams should feel empowered to be able to try out an idea. Some will succeed and many will fail, this is acceptable and understood, innovations won’t happen otherwise.
- Frequent releases. A constant stream of smaller releases provides a much more stable solution for customers. Good teams release no less frequently than every two weeks, great teams release multiple times per day.
